Windows 7
As a Windows user, I’m somewhat limited as to what OS I can run on my machines. Granted, I can and have run OS X before (No longer do, though) while experimenting but other than that, I’m limited to what I can run.
My first PC was running Windows 98 back about 10/11 years ago now, we then upgraded to Windows ME so I could play GTA3 on the PC and after that, XP Pro. Since then and I got my own PC, I have run XP Pro, XP Pro x64 and then Vista. I have run Ubuntu Linux before but for the things I do on a machine, it doesn’t have the compaitibily or ease-of-use that Windows has.
Now comes along Windows 7, of which looks to be a mighty OS!

Windows 7 is the next version of Windows after Vista. It has more features, less bloat and will run on computers that are slower than what Vista wants! Putting it in simple terms, if you have a Netbook on XP or a Notebook on Vista Home Basic (no flashy Aero graphics) Windows 7 will run fully on your machine. For the techies among us, here are Windows 7′s minimum hardware requirements:
512 Mb of RAM
1.2Ghz Processor
64Mb graphics card
15Gb free hard disk space
I know 7 year old IBM Leuvenos with better spec than them, so technicly they can run this new OS too! Also, nearly every Netbook out there has this spec or more (Except the 8GB SSD varieties) so they too can run Windows 7.
I’ve also done a lot of reading into 7 and it seems its very sturdy, very fast and very nice to look at. They have done away with the Vista Sidebar but kept the Gadgets as they will now integrate with the desktop. (Like how OS X does?) and many other features. The good thing? The official public beta will be released on Friday (tomorrow) of which is my Birthday.
And, if the OS is as good as everyone has seen from the leaked unofficial beta, I will download it and give it a whirl and give it a proper review. Thankfully, Vista has the ability to shrink HDD partitions now, so I’ve given myself a nice 50GB chunk to play about with 7 on.
Expect more sometime this weekend or early on next week.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year!
